If you're dreaming of sun-soaked beaches this summer, there's an island off the west coast of Africa that should be on your must-visit list. And it's now easier than ever to get there, thanks to easyJet launching its first-ever flight to this Caribbean-like destination.
The budget airline has started offering a service from London Gatwick to Sal, an island in Cape Verde, three times a week. The new flight route kicked off on March 31 and will fly out every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to the sunny archipelago.
Cape Verde is an island country made up of ten volcanic islands, with Sal being a favorite among international tourists. It's an ideal spot for American tourists as its dry season aligns with the US winter, running from November through to May, reports the Mirror UK.
During these months, humidity levels fall and rainfall is at its lowest. The constant sunshine is even more enjoyable if you travel at the start or end of the peak season, in May and November respectively.
Even in winter, Cape Verde boasts average temperatures of between 77-86F.
Cape Verde is only one hour behind the UK (two hours during BST), so there's no need to worry about jetlag before or after your holiday.
Cape Verde shines as a paradise for those who worship the sun and crave adventure. The islands are famed for magnificent beaches such as Santa Monica Beach in Boa Vista, cherished for its peaceful aura and vast stretches of golden sand, and Sal's Santa Maria Beach, a gateway to crystal-clear blue waters.
Once you touch down on Sal, island-hopping is a breeze, allowing you to savor the full diversity of this captivating archipelago. After soaking up the sun and indulging in aquatic sports in Sal and Boa Vista, adventurers can venture to the cultural hub of Sao Vicente or the rugged treks on Santo Antao.
Natasha Marson, the bigwig at easyJet holidays responsible for Trade Distribution, gushed about the new offering: "We're thrilled to be launching our brilliant package holidays to our brand new destination, Cape Verde. Sal is a fantastic island with so much to offer, including year-round sunshine, so we're confident it's going to be a huge success with our travel agent partners and their customers."
Flights from London Gatwick to Sal span six hours, with prices varying by travel dates. April flights start at a bargain rate of just $165.
