Gov.Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergencyfor 54 Florida counties, including Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau, Putnam and St. Johns, and many counties announced school closings.

Will Jacksonville Transportation Authority services or other area transportation services be affected by Hurricane Milton?

The JTA will run regular operations on JTA's fixed-bus route, BRT First Coast Flyer routes, Connexion and ReadiRide service, as long as it is safe to do so Wednesday and Thursday. Some flood detours were in effect Wednesday. The Magenta line in Clay County will not run Wednesday and Thursday. Friday operations are to be determined based on the storm. The Duval County Courthouse will be closed Wednesday through Friday, as will the Duval County Clerk of Courts offices at the courthouse and at 1543 Atlantic Blvd. Participants in the LET’S DRIVE JAX! driver’s license reinstatement expo who have a scheduled appointment or court appearance affected by this closure will be contacted by the Clerk’s Office with their new schedule once it is determined. The city's waste collection will continue Wednesday as long as it is safe to do so. All Thursday waste collections — garbage, recycling and yard waste — will be suspended and collected Saturday instead. Friday collections are expected to go ahead.

Here are Jacksonville's waste guidelines:

COLLECT: Gather storm debris such as tree limbs, trunks, palm fronds, and bulky branches from yard. Private contractors hired by property owners for tree trimming/removal services must haul debris away, as required by City ordinance. Smaller debris, such as leaves, twigs, and pine needles, should be bagged or containerized and meet the five cubic yard limit.

COMPILE: Separate containerized yard waste, loose storm debris, and any construction/demolition debris (plywood, roof shingles, sheetrock, etc.). Bulk waste should follow existing size requirements and is picked up according to existing household bulky waste schedules.

CURB: Bagged/containerized yard waste that meets the five cubic yard limit requirement is picked up weekly as usual. Debris should be separated by type and placed at least three feet away from obstructions such as vehicles, mailboxes, fire hydrants and utilities.

Clay County

Garbage and yardwastewill be picked up Wednesday until conditions are unsafe to do so.

Disaster debris vendors started picking up vegetative storm debris from Helene on Monday morning and will continue Tuesday and possibly Wednesday as they monitor conditions.

St Johns County

Household solid waste collection will be suspended on Thursday, with those collections moved to Friday. Residents who would have had household solid waste collected on Friday will have it collected on Saturday.

All recycling collection will be suspended Wednesday through Friday.

The Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road Transfer Stations willclose Thursday.

The city of St. Augustine will suspend Thursday solid wastecollectionservices and Friday and focus on storm debris cleanup.
